{Photography} Shooting People

As I was sorting through my external hard drive last night for some portfolio pieces, I found a lot of photo shoots I forgot about. I forgot how much fun shooting people was. Shooting photos of people that is. Not bang bang shooting, but…well, you get the point! :P The process of planning and organizing a creative photo shoot theme, to getting props together, to finding a guinea pig (aka model), to scouting out  a location, to photographing, to editing and to seeing the final production – I miss all of that.  The one thing I don’t miss is sweating my butt off from the hot sticky summer photo shoots – that, I can do without! :D Thankfully Valentines Day is around the corner, and a friend asked me to do a photo shoot of her and her boyfriend. I’m looking forward to it in a couple of weeks! Let’s hope the weather cooperates with us. *crosses fingers* Time to start thinking of ideas! By the way, if you’d like a photo shoot in the near future, feel free to contact me. We can work out a date that’s convenient for both of us. :D

Anyway, here are some photos from the past that are some of my favorites. “Like” my post if you guys want to see more of my photography work!

Before I deleted all my blog posts from a couple years ago, I had a few posts on some DIY pieces I sewed. Just thought I’d blog about them again. I sure miss sewing. Here’s a few projects I’ve worked on in the past. Let me know if you guys want me to do any tutorials on these.  Enjoy!

{Beauty Review} Mary Kay Skincare Products

With the weather being so cold, it’s hard to prevent your skin from being dried out. The key to having moisturized flawless skin in the winter begins with great skin care products. This week I tested out some of Mary Kay’s best selling skin care products, and here’s what I have to say about them:

1.  Mary Kay’s Timewise 3-in-1 cleanser

3-in-1

The 3-in-1 cleanser cleanses, exfoliates and refreshes your skin to reveal youthful more vibrant skin. It comes in a 4.5 oz bottle for $18.00. This product can be purchased for people who have normal/dry skin and combination/oily skin. It’s oil and fragrance free, and suitable for sensitive skin.

I have combination skin where my cheeks are usually dry and my T-zone often gets oily throughout the day, so I tested the combination/oily bottle, and to be honest, I didn’t feel much difference to my face after using the product. One thing I would say is that it did help control the shine in my T-zone from getting too oily. As mentioned before, it’s fragrance free so for those who prefer fragrance free products because you’ve got sensitive skin, I’d recommend this for you. I personally love fresh scents to my skin care products – it makes me feel like my skin is cleaner and fresher! :D  Also, with this product, you really don’t need a lot of it. A dime size will do the job, and it lathers quite nicely. I give this a 6/10.

2. Mary Kay’s Timewise Age-Fighting Moisturizer

agefightingmoisturizerThe age-fighting moisturizer is formulated with an exclusive dream humectant (preserving moisture) blend and antioxidants that help guard against free radicals to help skin look and feel smooth when used with the 3-in-1 cleanser. It comes in a 3 oz. bottle, perfect for traveling, and can be purchased for normal/dry skin and combination/oily skin for $22. It’s fragrance and oil free that is suitable for sensitive skin.

After using the 3-in-1 cleanser, I squeezed a dime size to my finger tips and massaged it all over my face. I really like this moisturizer. It goes on really good and absorbed really well into my skin leaving it shine-free throughout majority of the day. It’s also a very light formula that isn’t left sticky after applying it, like some other moisturizers I’ve used in the past.  I would give this product an 8/10.

** You can also get Mary Kay’s Timewise Miracle Set for normal/dry or combination/oily skin for $90. It includes the 3-in-1 cleanser (4.5 oz.), age-fighting moisturizer (3 oz.), day solution sunscreen (1 oz.), and night solution (1 oz.). Or if you want, you can purchase a trial size set for a little less than half the price to try it out if it suits you.

3. Mary Kay’s Timewise Microdermbrasion Set

microderm

The microdermbrasion set is a two-part system that fights fine lines, reduces the appearance of pores, and creates softer, smoother, healthier and more radiant skin. Step 1 of the process energizes the skin with mini crystals that reveal a healthier and more radiant looking skin. Step 2 replenishes the skin making it softer and smoother. It’s oil and fragrance free and can be purchased as a set for $55 or individually.

I actually really like this product. I especially like step 1: refining your skin. The exfoliation of the mini crystals felt really good on my skin. It wasn’t rough like other scrubs and exfoliants, and all of the product rinsed off my face. Often times when I use scrubs and exfoliants, I always find little particles long after I’ve rinsed my face. (Maybe I’m the only one that this happens to. =/) In step 2, it’s a really light serum that absorbed nicely into my skin. I really saw a difference after I used the system. My skin did look more radiant. I would give this set an 8/10.

4. Mary Kay’s Acne Treatment Gel

acneThe acne treatment gel penetrates pores and eliminates blackheads, pimples, and blemishes while preventing new ones from forming. It can be purchased for $7 for a 1 oz. bottle.

The last few weeks my skin was suffering from break outs along my T-zone and cheeks – the first thing I did was ask my Facebook friends what their recommendations were for acne treatments. I ended up purchasing the Mary Kay spot treatment last week, and have been using it ever since to help with my acne. So far, so good! Probably the best $7 investment I’ve ever made! I usually use the Clean & Clear Advantage spot treatment and that one I buy for roughly the same price, but it wasn’t doing quite the job for the stubborn little suckers on my face the last few weeks. Now I use both spot treatments – the Mary Kay spot treatment for more stubborn pimples since it’s got 5% benzoyl peroxide, which dries up the pimples killing the bacteria causing it, and the Clean & Clear for pimples that are almost gone, which contains 2% salicylic acid that penetrates the pores and exfoliates any dead skin cells. I really like  both products! One downside of the Mary Kay spot treatment is that it dries up my face in the areas that I apply it due to such a high percentage of benzoyl peroxide, so I only spot treat the pimples twice a day (morning & evening) whereas with the Clean & Clear, I can spot treat my pimples throughout the day and it won’t dry up my skin. I give this product 9/10.

5. Mary Kay’s Satin Lip Mask

satinlipsThe satin lips mask contains miniature beads that gently exfoliate dead surface skin cells that cause lips to appear dull and lifeless. $9.50 for a .3 oz bottle. It can be purchased with the satin lips set for $18 which includes the satin lips mask and satin lips lip balm.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this product! This is by far my favorite Mary Kay product! This lip mask is perfect for the winter when you’re lips get really dry and chapped. This will help peel away the dead skin cells bringing out your natural lip color after you rinse away the mask. Seriously, it makes your lips super smooth and soft. I’d definitely recommend you to buy the set with the lip balm. Your lips feel AMAZING after! I didn’t purchase the lip balm because I was too broke to afford the set, so I use my FRESH sugar lip balm that I got from Sephora, complimentary as a birthday gift being a Beauty Insider. It works good, but not as good as the satin lips set together.

A trick for all your lipstick lovers out there: Use this mask before any kind of lipstick application and it’ll help your lipstick slide on better as well as last longer! This product scores a 10/10 in my book!!!

{Health} Acne Fix-it! Masque

I have combination skin so I tend to break out in my T-Zone a lot, but the last couple of weeks I have been breaking out more than usual. I’m assuming it’s from the lack of water, healthy eating and exercising, or it could have been hormonal changes due to the time of the month. What ever the cause was, I was not happy with my skin and acne problem. I was contemplating on whether I should try Proactiv or not but after talking with people about their experience, I was hesitant to try it myself since I don’t break out all the time. A friend mentioned that the only product worth having/using from Proactiv was their masque. Then my cousin suggested I try Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque. She said it works just as good as the Proactiv masque but cheaper! So I decided to take the risk and rushed to the local drugstore to help find a product to fight my acne problems! Dun dun dun….

masqueTonight is my third night trying the masque and so far I am loving it! It’s reduced my acne and it leaves my face soft, smooth and blackhead free! I would definitely recommend this masque to anyone who has acne problems. According to the package, “it helps dry up acne pimples, rinse away blackheads & shrink enlarged pores.” And it really does just that! Even if you don’t have acne problems, it’s a good masque to “help relax tired muscle and ease tension lines on the face & neck.”

You can purchase a bottle at Walgreens for $3.79, or  Ulta for $3.99.

{2013} I am BACK!

My apologies for neglecting my blog for many many months! Last year I told myself I would keep up with my blog, but that didn’t turn out very well. (Yikes, sorry!) I promise…promise…promise I will do a better job this year. After all, it is one of my 2013 resolutions!

I hope you all are having a wonderful New Year so far. I just got back from visiting my boyfriend from Rhode Island last week, and will be sharing some of my favorite spots I visited while I was there. Mainly restaurants that we ate at. I love food! :D

Before I head out, here’s a short list of my New Years resolution:

1. Stay healthy & be more active
2. Save more, spend less
3. Appreciate & remind my loved ones how much they mean to me
4. Blog more consistently
5. Find a career that I enjoy going to every single day :D
6. No more complaining about things I can’t control (aka bickering with the bf. hehe Love you babe! :P )
